How is Hirschsprung's Disease Treated? Surgery & Recovery
Surgery is the main treatment for Hirschsprung’s disease. It removes the part of the colon that’s missing nerve cells and connects the healthy section to the anus so stool can pass normally. Some children may need a temporary colostomy during recovery. At CHOC, our pediatric surgeons and nurses guide families through every step — from preparing for surgery to caring for your child afterward. We’re here to answer your questions and support your child’s healing journey with empathy and expertise.
