Visiting the Outpatient Infusion Center
This short video will describe what you and your child will experience during visits to the Outpatient Infusion Center at CHOC Hospital.
After parking, go to the second floor of clinic entrance. Follow the signs to the Outpatient Infusion Center and check in at the registration desk.
Your child will be called back to take height, weight and vital signs.
Your child will have an assigned room. Your nurse can discuss the infusion visit, access to central line or I-V start.
The Outpatient Infusion Center has an ultrasound machine for more complex I-V access.
The nurse may use an infusion pump to administer medicine or blood products.
A nurse practitioner or physician might stop by to see your child. They can answer any questions.
Visit time depends on the medicine or procedure your child is having.
Lunch will be provided if your child is having an infusion or a procedure that takes a while. Snacks are also available for your child.
Infusion of medicine might make your child feel sick.
After your child’s procedure is complete, stop by the front desk to book their next appointment, if needed.
