Locations

Adolescence is an exciting and complicated time of growth and
discovery, and teens and young adults have needs that are different
from younger children and adults. The Adolescent Medicine Program
is available for consultation at the request of the patient’s primary
care provider when specialty care is necessary. Our experienced
and highly skilled team of board-certified adolescent medicine
specialists care for patients 12-21 years of age with complex medical,
social, and multi-disciplinary needs unique to this age group while
understanding and providing the best care according to individual
developmental needs and confidentiality of all patients.

Our adolescent medicine specialists commonly treat:
  • Acne
  • Alcohol use, risk reduction and cessation
  • At-risk youth
  • Comprehensive contraception (pills, patch, ring, shot, implant)
  • Development and growth of the adolescent (social, emotional, physical)
  • Doxy-PEP
  • Eating disorders
  • Emergency contraception
  • HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • Male and female reproductive healthcare planning and counseling
  • Marijuana use, risk reduction and cessation
  • Menstrual concerns and assistance with menstrual management
  • PCOS, metabolic syndrome
  • Puberty issues
  • Sexuality anticipatory guidance, sexual orientation and LGBTQ care
  • Sexually transmitted infections (prevention, screening and treatment)
  • Smoking and vaping cessation

Programs and Services

Eating Disorders

  • Assessment and management of bulimia nervosa, anorexia
    nervosa, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)
    and other eating disorders.
  • We provide a multidisciplinary approach to care including
    specialists from the field of mental health, social work and
    nutrition science in addition to our physician specialists.

Reproductive and Sexual Health

  • Management and implementation of comprehensive contraception
  • Confidential screening, diagnosis and management of sexually
    transmitted infections and sequelae for both females and males
  • Adolescent gynecological services including abnormal uterine
    bleeding, PCOS, painful menses, heavy menses, irregular or
    absent menses
  • LGBTQIA+ services, counseling support, hormone therapy,
    health management of other associated conditions

Specialty Care Physician Concierge Service

Our physician concierge service expedites physician to physician communication with CHOC specialists. We can assist you with urgent patient referrals, access for urgent appointments, scheduling inquiries and access to specialists.
