Description: Lots of schools are opening Wellness Spaces on campus so students have a place to learn coping skills and de-stress. But what about breaks from school, when students are spending most of their time at home? Families can bring the benefits of wellness and coping spaces home! A CHOC mental health expert will teach you how!
Learning Objectives:
- Learn why it’s important to use coping skills at home
- Practice two ways to encourage coping at home
- Learn at least three coping skills you can do at home with few or no supplies
Presenter: Kevin Rowen, PsyD
Presenter bio: Dr. Kevin Rowen, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist at CHOC Children’s Hospital who specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT. He led the development of CHOC’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for middle school students, serving youth in grades 6-8 with concerns related to suicide or self-harm. He also supports the high school IOP program and provides student, teacher, and parent education through CHOC’s partnerships with local schools.
