Emergency Department check-in at CHOC Hospital

This short video will describe what you can expect during check-in at the Julia and George Argyros Emergency Department at CHOC Hospital.

When you arrive at CHOC, drive up to the Emergency Department valet parking. It’s available 24 hours a day.

Valet parking costs $2 for emergency department patients.

Go to the front desk to speak with a nurse or registration clerk.

The nurse will check your child to determine how serious their condition is.

An emergency department staff person in the lobby will get your child’s vital signs, which check on blood pressure, body temperature and oxygen saturation levels.

The nurse will evaluate the urgency of care needed to prioritize which patients need to be seen first. This is called triaging. The nurse will also determine what diagnostic testing is needed.

If your child doesn’t have an immediate life-threatening condition and no beds are immediately available, some diagnostic testing may begin in the lobby.
