Adolescence is a time of growth and discovery, with unique medical needs. At CHOC, our board-certified adolescent medicine specialists partner with adolescents, young adults and their families to address these needs with developmentally appropriate specialty care for patients aged 12-21. We offer confidential services within the dynamic social environment of the individual and family.

The CHOC Division of Adolescent Medicine includes faculty members who are experts in treating the medical and emotional issues teens and young adults may face. We understand the cognitive, emotional and physical changes of adolescence as well as the complexity of patient autonomy, confidentiality and family support needed to provide optimal care for the adolescent patient.

Our adolescent medicine specialists commonly treat:
  • Acne
  • Alcohol use, risk reduction and cessation
  • At-risk youth
  • Comprehensive contraception (pills, patch, ring, shot, implant)
  • Development and growth of the adolescent (social, emotional, physical)
  • Doxy-PEP
  • Eating disorders
  • Emergency contraception
  • HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • Male and female reproductive healthcare planning and counseling
  • Marijuana use, risk reduction and cessation
  • Menstrual concerns and assistance with menstrual management
  • PCOS, metabolic syndrome
  • Puberty issues
  • Sexuality anticipatory guidance, sexual orientation and LGBTQ care
  • Sexually transmitted infections (prevention, screening and treatment)
  • Smoking and vaping cessation
