Dr. Charles Golden, Vice President, Assistant Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Charles Golden, DO, is a board-certified pediatrician and VP, Assistant Chief Medical Officer of the CHOC Primary Care Network. He sees patients on Tuesdays CHOC Primary Care Clinic (Chapman).

Before medical school, he earned his physician assistant certificate and practiced as a physician assistant at Southern Orange County Pediatric Associates. He went on to earn his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona. He completed his internship and pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where he also served a year as chief resident.

Teaching is central to Dr. Golden’s work. He sees every patient visit as a chance to help families understand the body and the reasoning behind medical decisions, and he is passionate about mentoring medical students and residents, who he says keep him current on the latest research.

As a leader, he has helped advance initiatives such as a unified electronic health record across primary care offices, expanded adolescent medicine services, early vision screening for young children, integrated mental health support in primary care practices, and the Resilience Program.

Dr. Golden’s interest in medicine began as a teenager, when his love of science coincided with his father’s heart attack and he became fascinated by how medicine cared for him. He believes families should be able to trust that their child’s care is evidence-based, up to date, and delivered with warmth and compassion.

Outside of medicine, he enjoys working with his hands and says he’d likely be a general contractor if he weren’t a doctor.
