Through this innovative program, our Orthopaedic Institute and Neuroscience Institute partner to provide evaluation and treatment of children with a variety of neuromuscular conditions. This wide-ranging program offers on-site specialty clinics in three areas: muscular dystrophy and muscle disease, spasticity related to neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, and spina bifida.
Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic
CHOC has the only pediatric clinic in Orange County designated by the Muscular Dystrophy Association for helping families manage muscle disease. Our diverse team of specialists partners with the MDA to offer comprehensive care while providing access to national research and community support. In addition to an MDA liaison who attends clinic sessions regularly, our team includes pediatric neurologists, orthopaedic surgeons, pulmonologists, cardiologists, geneticists, orthotists, specialty nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists and physical therapists. Spasticity Clinic
The only program of its kind in Orange County, we offer multispecialty evaluation for children and adolescents with spasticity related to cerebral palsy and other movement disorders. The CHOC Neuroscience Institute and the CHOC Orthopaedic Institute partner closely to evaluate every child’s needs and provide innovative treatments, such as Botox® injections and intrathecal baclofen pumps. Spina Bifida Clinic
CHOC is a state-designated Spina Bifida Team Center and provides children with closely followed care by an entire team of specialists, including neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, psychologists and more. Our team has been internationally recognized for innovative treatments and expertise in the very latest surgical techniques, and we work with patients and their families to help them transition their care into adulthood.
