Ready Together: Emergency preparedness for home and work
Emergencies can strike anytime — at home, at work, or in the community. This interactive course, developed by CHOC, empowers individuals and families with the knowledge and tools to prepare for a wide range of emergencies, from natural disasters to public health crises.
Participants will learn practical strategies for building emergency kits, creating communication plans and responding effectively to incidents in both home and workplace settings. The course emphasizes inclusive planning for children, older adults, pets and individuals with access and functional needs. Through hands-on activities, real-world scenarios and expert guidance from hospital emergency management professionals, attendees will gain confidence in their ability to protect themselves and support others during critical events.
Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, employee or community leader, this course will help you take proactive steps toward resilience — because preparedness is a shared responsibility.
Course topics include:
- Personal and family emergency planning
- Workplace safety and continuity strategies
- First aid basics and when to seek medical help
- Evacuation, shelter-in-place and reunification procedures
- Communication tools and alert systems
- Mental health and trauma-informed response
- Community resources and hospital coordination
In-person or virtual two- to four-hour sessions (with optional follow-ups) are open to all community members, provided by the CHOC Emergency Management Department’s Community Outreach Team.
