Clinical Trial

Dr. Sailaja Golla and the research team at the Thompson Autism and Neurodevelopmental Center at CHOC are conducting a research study to learn more about how an investigational medication can be used to treat challenges related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), such as social communication and anxiety in adolescents and young adults ages 12-21.

In this study, participants will complete 10 visits at the Thompson Autism and Neurodevelopmental Center and 4 phone calls over 34 weeks. At the first in-person study visit, participants will be screened to see if they are eligible for the study. At this visit, the participant will complete different assessments, including an electrocardiogram (ECG) and a physical exam. Participants will also receive a blood test.

Eligible participants will be given either the investigational medication or a placebo (a pill without medication in it) to take for 12 weeks. After the 12 weeks are completed, the participant will not take any medication for 6 weeks. After the 6 weeks are complete, the groups will switch and receive either the investigational medication or the placebo for 12 weeks, depending on what was given the first time.

Participants will be compensated $100 for every completed in-person study visit and $25 for each completed phone call.

The study is currently open to enrollment, and the research team is seeking adolescents and young adults age 12-21 with ASD. There is no obligation to join the study, and participants can withdraw at any time.
