Brief Description
This presentation will review how to identify symptoms of depression in youth.  As part of the presentation, a CHOC Pediatric Psychologist will also provide strategies parents and caregivers can use to help their child cope with symptoms of depression as well as provide insights into when and how to seek professional help.

Presenter Bio
Dr. Kristen Yule is a pediatric psychologist who earned her doctorate from Marquette University and completed her internship and post-doctoral fellowship at CHOC. Dr. Yule specializes in working with children and adolescents at CHOC Hospital in Orange.

Objectives

  • Learn about the symptoms of depression, how does depression present in youth, and signs that could indicate that it is time to seek professional help
  • Understand what behavioral activation is (a skill for coping with depression)
  • Identify resources that help parents, caregivers and the general public find therapy services for children and adolescents
