Child Life specialists provide positive support to help children cope and feel better. They give patients and siblings ways to express themselves through therapeutic play and creative arts.

CHOC’s child life staff are trained to work with children and understand the stress that children might feel in the hospital.

Certified child life specialists can help your child feel more comfortable about his or her procedure, stay or illness. They use books, dolls, tablets and games to explain medical equipment and what to expect.

Other services offered include music therapy, pet therapy, playrooms and special entertainment.

Child Life specialists round throughout the hospital, but you can also ask your child’s nurse to send one if you see that your child needs help.
