School Programs

Programs can be brought to your school or group. Programs are provided at no cost.

Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim (Pre K- First Grade)
This program is a child’s first guide to water safety.Presented by CHOC Community Educators the book shows how to be safe near the water through the story of Stewie the Duck – a duck who wants to swim with the big ducks but is prevented from going into the water by his older sisters until he learns the water safety rules.

Healthy Habits (Grades K-6)
Through this program children will be encouraged to adopt healthy habits. The five basic food groups and the importance of eating balanced meals will be taught using an interactive activity.

Germbusters (Grades Pre K- Sixth Grade)
Kids will become “GERMBUSTERS” when they learn how to protect themselves against germs when someone coughs or sneezes. Learn the importance of proper hand washing and learn how easily germs are spread through a fun glitter experiment, book and video.

Safe Sitter Program: (Ages 11-13)
Held at both CHOC in Orange and CHOC at Mission. $65 per student. Classes are offered during summer months with limited enrollment. Registration begins each year in May. A seven-hour, nationally accredited childcare course for children ages 11-13. Students will learn how to care for infants through school-age children. Includes injury prevention and management, personal safety, babysitting as a business and infant and child choking rescue skills.

Vaping and Youth (Grades 6-8)
Vaping and Youth would inform students of the risks of vaping, teach hard facts about vaping, describe the dangers of nicotine, and instruct students how to create a self-care plan to stay vape-free. Students will be given resources that provide additional education and counseling support to promote being vape-free.

Stress Busters (Grades 7-12)
Stress Busters will introduce students to what stress is and how it can affect their overall health and well-being. Students will learn about the Stress Busters Wheel and obtain an understanding of how each category in the Stress Busters Wheel can help them manage stress and develop healthy behaviors. Students will also be reminded about the many resources available to them that could help enhance their mental health and well-being.

Positive Affirmations (Grades 7-12)
Positive Affirmations will teach students a basic understanding of what positive affirmations are, when we can use them, and their benefits. Students will engage in short activities to help them practice using positive affirmations.

Adult Programs

Programs can be brought to your community group. Programs are provided at no cost in English and Spanish.

Home Safety Presentation
This program educates parents and caregivers about the dangers present in the home and how to prevent unintentional injuries. Through this presentation environmental changes and supervision will be addressed.

Child Passenger Safety Classes
During this class, a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician will cover current California laws regarding restraining children in the car. Each type of seat will be reviewed (from infant seats to booster seats) to help parents/caregivers choose the appropriate seat for their child. How to use and correctly install different types of seats using vehicle safety belts and LATCH system will be explained.

Well-Fed
This program will discuss how to make feeding time a positive stress-free experience. Parents and caregivers will learn to understand what children are communicating so they can help them become healthier eaters.

Three Tragic Seconds: Drowning Prevention
In this class, parents learn about the problem of drowning: why it happens, where it happens, and how it happens. It presents four action steps to prevent drowning including: using layers of barrier protection, designating water watchers, learning CPR, and clearly communicating child supervision.
