The medical staff services department provides administrative oversight in credentialing the CHOC’s medical staff. What is credentialing? It is the verification of physician’s education and training to perform medical care for CHOC patients. Following approval by the department, the credentials committee and the board, the physicians are granted membership and privileges of patient care. The physicians are appointed for a two year period after which the member and privileges must be requested and reviewed again.
Another function of the department is to provide support to medical staff via committee structures. Currently we support 35 committees. Action of committees includes approval of patient care policies and procedures, performance improvement teams and physician credentialing.
The department works closely with the quality department for accreditation and licensure to ensure CHOC’s compliance with external regulatory requirements and Joint Commission Accreditation Standards and coordinates with medical staff and administrative leadership preparation for identified accreditation and licensure surveys.
For any questions or to request an application for medical staff for either a physician or an Allied Health Practitioner, please email our office at medstaffoffice@choc.org. Please provide the name, address and specialty of the applicant.
