CHOC Volunteer Requirements

To support a safe and healthy environment for all of CHOC’s families, patients, associates and volunteers, all volunteers must meet the following requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 18 years old. No exceptions.
  • Volunteers must be able to commit to a regularly scheduled shift once a week. Most shifts run three to four hours.
  • Volunteers must dedicate a minimum of 100 hours of service (no summer-only volunteer opportunities). Out of the 100 hours of service, 10 hours must be committed to special event support.
  • Volunteers must abide by all patient confidentiality guidelines, customer service expectations, and CHOC’s policies. The safety and protection of our patients and families is our first priority.
  • Volunteers must adhere to our dress code:  full-length tan pants, CHOC uniform shirt (will be provided at no cost), closed-toe shoes, and no artificial nails (no gel, powder dipped or acrylic nails) in roles with patient contact.
  • Volunteers must have access to or possess a computer and email address. The Volunteer Programs department utilizes email to communicate vital information.

When accepted into our program, volunteers must adhere to CHOC’s volunteer onboarding requirements:

  • Complete online training modules.
  • Pass a background check (Social Security Number required; one-time fee of $33).
