(ORANGE, Calif., Jan. 12, 2015) – The Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC Children’s) board of directors has named UC Irvine Chancellor Howard Gillman, Ph.D., as its newest member.
In his new role, Dr. Gillman will work with fellow board members to guide the health system, which includes the main hospital campus in Orange and CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital.
“Dr. Gillman brings a wealth of experience to our board,” CHOC President and CEO Kimberly Chavalas Cripe said. “Like UC Irvine, he is a valued partner in CHOC’s mission to nurture, advance and protect the health and well being of children in Orange County and beyond.”
Dr. Gillman was named UC Irvine’s chancellor in September 2014 after serving as provost/executive vice chancellor and interim chancellor.
He holds academic appointments in various UC Irvine departments, including criminology, law and society; history; law; and political science. Dr. Gillman has authored several books and dozens of articles and book chapters.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Gillman to the CHOC Children’s board of directors,” said Mark Stevens, board chairman. “Dr. Gillman’s expertise and perspective will undoubtedly enhance CHOC’s leadership, and we look forward to collaborating with him.”
Prior to his UC Irvine tenure, Dr. Gillman served as a professor and dean at the University of Southern California. A UCLA graduate, Dr. Gillman is a Southern California native. He and his wife have two children.
