For many teens battling cancer, being forced to skip prom because of being in the hospital or having weakened immune systems is yet another bad side effect. It’s why a number of celebrities, patients, and guests gathered for Children’s Hospital of Orange County‘s “Alice in Wonderland” themed prom on Saturday, giving patients ages 14 to 19 the chance to party — as well as to be fussed over by professional stylists and hairdressers before the big dance. And from the number of fun-filled snaps on Instagram, it’s clear the hospital’s 16th annual oncology prom was a major success.
A highlight: The patients were treated to a special surprise from actor Chad Michael Murray, who dressed up in his famous ‘Cinderella Story’ character, Austin Ames. Murray shared a clip of himself in costume from inside the dance.
“Had the amazing pleasure of attending the #CHOC Prom last night. This is one of 4 or 5 rooms they decorated. It was incredible. I brought Austin Ames out of retirement, I mean hey it’s Prom! Met the best kids & got to dance with my wife at her 1st Prom. Thank you @warnerbrosentertainment for letting me take the wardrobe out for a night. Big win- IT STILL FITS!” he captioned the short clip.
He also shared a Facebook live video before entering the event, in which he thanked Warner Bros. Entertainment once again for allowing him to wear the costume for the special night.
