Children’s Hospital of Orange County said today it’s building a new children’s mental health inpatient center as part of an initiative that will be supported by a $5 million gift from Sandy Segerstrom Daniels.
Segerstrom Daniels is a managing partner in South Coast Plaza, and a partner in C.J. Segerstrom & Sons and HTS Management, all in Costa Mesa.
CHOC said the new mental health center will have 18 beds in a building that will be renovated on its main campus in Orange. Construction is expected to start this fall and be completed in late 2017.
CHOC will launch a fundraising campaign with an eye an additional $6 million to complete the center. The hospital also plans to establish a $16 million endowment.
CHOC executives said the long-term goal of the center is to create a model for pediatric mental healthcare that can be replicated at other sites across the nation.
