Sarah Flores provides tender care to patients in her role as a licensed vocational nurse at the CHOC Primary Clinic. To her, it's all in a day's work. Imagine her surprise, then, when a routine trip to the grocery store resulted in Sarah putting her nursing skills to a life-saving test! Sarah was filling up her grocery cart, when her husband, who had traveled to another aisle, grabbed her and took her to a crowd of patrons. The group was circled around a frantic mom and an infant, who was choking. The mom was trying to pass her child to anyone who could help, as onlookers offered misguided advice. Sarah, assuming her role as a CHOC caregiver, grabbed the child and in one swift movement, dislodged a piece of hard candy from the infant. She received a round of applause. Of course, Sarah didn't think she did anything extraordinary. This child's mother, however, would most certainly disagree.
