Sara Sheldon suffered from the effects of cerebral palsy. She had difficulty walking, sleeping and even moving, owing to severe limb spasticity and tremors. To correct her condition, Michael Muhonen, M.D., Medical Director of the CHOC Neuroscience Institute, performed Intrathecal Baclofen Pump implantation into her abdomen. The pump delivers a constant, low dose of Baclofen via catheter to her spinal cord and brain, allowing her muscles to relax. Six months after her surgery, and with the help of intense physical therapy, Sara's tremors had subsided and she was able to walk almost normally, allowing her to dispose of her wheelchair and attend school regularly.
