Registered nurse Sheila Dunning, who works in the CHOC Orthopaedic Clinic, never experiences a dull moment on the job. No day is ever alike, though her commitment to her patients and families remains the same.
Sheila’s dedication to family-centered care, for example, is demonstrated when she takes a phone call from a 20-year-old post-operative patient who is concerned about her pain. Sheila listens attentively and helps the young woman with her pain management. Sheila’s commitment is also clear when she helps a frantic mom, who has been shuffled from different emergency departments and physician offices, to secure an appointment with a CHOC specialist. Her passion and compassion for CHOC patients and families is evident in her education efforts – tailored for each patient and family to meet their needs. And, she goes above the call of duty when she realizes the need for special car seat or seat belt training due to a patient’s cast.
In everything she does, Sheila remains focused on providing the best care to her orthopaedic patients and their families – all in a day’s work for this dedicated CHOC nurse.
