As patients, families and the community visit Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), they will likely see the "Kids at Play" permanent sculpture and be touched in some way. It's a glimpse into the bright, hopeful future of a child that is healthy and full of life.
The "Kids at Play" sculpture also honors the memories of a great family. Bernie Horwitz and his son Brad donated the art to CHOC on behalf of The Horwitz Family Memorial Foundation.
Bernie spotted the sculpture in a Laguna Beach art gallery and immediately thought of CHOC. He dedicated it to CHOC in loving memory of his wife Maxine and their two children Wayne and Diane.
Bernie commented, "My son and I are delighted that CHOC chose to embrace the idea of 'Kids at Play' being installed on the hospital grounds. It is difficult to view this sculpture and not smile. To us it epitomizes the goals and ambitions of the CHOC staff to return every child back to health and give each of them a chance at a playful future."
There is no better tribute to the past than the future. The CHOC "Kids at Play" sculpture is a reminder of that, everyday.
