CHOC Patient Chosen to be Hyundai's National Pediatric Cancer Youth Ambassador

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Hyundai Motor America and its dealers? commitment to
supporting the fight against pediatric cancer. To commemorate this milestone, Hyundai conducted
a nationwide search and selected 10-year-old CHOC patient Sammy Heim to be its national Youth
Ambassador. She will represent the spirit of Hope on Wheels and encourage other pediatric cancer
patients and their families.

Bridget Colby watched as their 2-yearold
daughter Sophia bravely fought for
her life. As Sophia lay in the Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with 19
intravenous pumps hooked up to her
little body, her heart stopped beating
five separate times.

Family Supports CHOC's Cord Blood Bank

In 1994, Dr. Tom Broderick, a former radiologist at
CHOC and St. Joseph?s Hospital, and his wife Lisa
became pioneers in a very new science by donating
and storing their daughter?s cord blood at CHOC.
The Broderick?s daughter Julia, who is now 13, was
one of the first cord blood donors at CHOC.
